Jonathan-isms 20.5 months

Here are a few of my favorite Jonathan-isms of the moment:
  • He has started calling me "Mommy" instead of "Mama".
  • He can count pretty well when prompted, but I often catch him singing to himself "One, free, four, six, one, free, four, six".
  • He ends all verbs with "it" as in "Jonathan have it cookie?" or "Crash it cars!" or "Shoot it basketball!!"
  • He loves sitting on the counter to 'help' me cook. And once the food is sorted, is enthralled with the nesting doll measuring cups Santa left in my stocking.
  • When something is upside down, he will fix it and then declare "Up-side up!"
  • When he finishes a task and no one congratulates him, he takes it upon himself to say "good-job"
  • If something falls or makes any sort of loud banging noise, he looks up in delight and says "Crash Bang Boom!"
  • After we tuck him in at night he sings himself to sleep. Usually a round of "Away in a manger" that blends seamlessly into "Twinkle twinkle little star"

sorting

Since it has been (mostly) too cold to play outside much lately, we have resorted to a lot of creative indoor play to ward off the crazies. I bought these paints a few weeks ago, but haven't been quite brave enough to break out painting again. But Jonathan took an affinity to the bottles and has spent hours putting them into and out of the box. In a rare stroke of genius, I decided to see if he could sort them by colors- so I took a sheet of drawing paper and colored squares on it with a marker and voila, a sorting toy.

here he is mid-sort, sporting his "bear shoes"

Jonathan loves it and calls the game "bottles". But after sorting it a few times and having me name each color as he put them on the squares, he knows almost all of his colors!! If only I had the creativity to come up with this stuff more often!!

Christmas 2010

So after being home for a week, I am finally putting up pictures from our Christmas trip. We had a great time!!

showing Jonathan how to crash his toy cars

sledding with Uncle Brian

sledding is fun, but hard to compete with shooting snowballs into a basketball hoop!

Being with family is great. It always reminds me about the important things and makes me so grateful for all of the blessings I have. I miss you guys already!!!

crashes

We just recently turned Jonathan's car seat around so that he is now forward facing. I love it for several reasons including the increased ease of passing snacks and toys into the backseat and that with his new view on the world, Jonathan and I do a lot more chatting about what we see. For example today as we were pulling up to a red light behind a pickup:

Me: Jonathan do you see the truck?

Jonathan: Truck!! Crash the truck!! Crash the truck!!

Me: No, honey, we don't want to have crashes with real cars.

Jonathan: Crash the truck? Momma, crash the truck!

He persisted in instructing me to crash into every parked car we passed on the ride home.
